Taurine's mitochondrial mechanism is highly specific — it is incorporated into mitochondrial tRNA as a modified nucleoside required for accurate translation of electron transport chain subunits. Without it, ETC assembly is impaired regardless of CoQ10 status. This is a distinct mechanism from everything else in the mitochondrial protection stack.

The inflammation association in the human data connects directly to NF-κB — taurine inhibits the same pathway as L-theanine and quercetin, which drives the hepcidin-iron-inflammation loop relevant to PCOS, Hashimoto's, and Long COVID inflammatory sequelae.

The RCT gap noted is accurate and important. The animal lifespan data is striking. Human clinical translation is still pending. The mechanistic case is strong enough to act on at food-form doses (meat, seafood, eggs) while waiting for the RCT.

I cover the broader mitochondrial framework this connects to at graceann.substack.com.
